5-Day Course Summary
Each day is typically broken up into theory sessions, followed by very practical example problems that apply the theory learned. The course notes are about 400 pages of very good reference material that you will use long after the course. They are written by Tom Van Laan, former president of Intergraph CAS, an M.I.T. graduate who has over 20 years of experience in nuclear, power and petrochemical pipe stress analysis. He is also the author of a McGraw-Hill text book on the subject of pipe stress analysis.
Through our technical support we learn, every day, what engineers need to know, and we've tailored our seminar to give as much practical knowledge as we can in 5 days. We invariably hear that the course is the very best around, both in terms of content, and practical application.

- 'Small enough group to permit a lot of 'one-on-one' for everybody. Practical examples were used for exercises. Engineering course given by an engineer, not a salesperson or computer programmer.'
- 'The understanding of material covered by the staff is remarkable. Good environment, comfortable relationship between staff and attendees.'
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The seminar covers proper system modeling guidelines, methods of static and dynamic analysis of piping systems, evaluation of system designs, and effective approaches to system redesign.
The seminar covers proper system modeling guidelines, methods of static and dynamic analysis of piping systems, evaluation of system designs, and effective approaches to system redesign.
The course is broken down into half-day sessions, each covering a major topic. Each of these sessions include a lecture, or discussion followed by a 'hands-on' exercise which reinforces the session topic.
We provide each attendee with their own personal computer and a copy of the CAESAR II pipe stress analysis program for use during the seminar. The complete course lasts five days; three days for modeling and static analysis, and twodays for dynamic analysis.
Technical Reference
Course notes, which serve as a technical reference during the seminar, are provided to all attendees.

These seminar notes are always extremely well regarded as an everyday technical resource. The direct, thoughtful style in which they are written makes it easy to understand even the most technical, complex issues.
From expansion joints and spring hanges to vibration and time-history analysis, the seminar course notes provide a great information resource that you will continue to use long after the course itself.
How the Course Will Help You Personally
- You'll learn problem solving principles that you will apply to real piping systems. This means learning how to correctly answer questions like:
- You'll speak directly to the people who not only developed the software, but who use it daily just as you do.
- You'll be exposed to recent techniques in dynamic/transient analysis.
- You'll learn the underlying engineering principles used in analyzing types of loads affecting piping systems.
- You'll get 'hands-on' experience with the CAESAR II program on your own PC, while instructors provide as-required one-on-one assistance, helping you learn how to quickly solve complex problems.
- You'll learn the theory behind the problems to help you gain more confidence in your modeling and build better models faster.
- You'll finally have the time to fully study the software and its applications.
- You'll learn our approach to reducing loads and stresses in piping systems.
'Is there a problem?'
'What is causing it?'
'How can we fix it?'
'What is causing it?'
'How can we fix it?'
How the Course Will Benefit Your Company
- You'll learn to analyze problems that, until now, had to be sent outside the company to 'specialists'.
- You'll save time by learning to solve potential pipe stress problems more accurately and more quickly.
- You'll save your company money by helping them keep more jobs in-house, provide more accurate cost estimates, and save future re-designs by having a better system from inception.
- You'll give your company that all-important competitive edgy it needs in today's marketplace.
